Thornton began his association with pihms, Inc. in May 2010, and provides his services to pihms through his human resources advisory solutions business, Austin Consulting Group, LLC. Thornton formed Austin Consulting Group in September 2009, and provides expertise to emerging and mid-market companies in Human Resources, corporate administration, mergers & acquisitions, executive & Board compensation, talent management & acquisition, strategic planning, change management, organizational alignment, learning & development, succession planning, process design, external/internal communications and public reporting.
From August 1992 until August 2008, Thornton served with Alere f/k/a Matria Healthcare, Inc. f/k/a Healthdyne, Inc. holding the positions of Executive Vice President, Senior Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer, and Vice President of Administration. He was a key advisor to the CEO and Board of Directors and successfully led numerous strategic initiatives including the integration of the three companies that formed Alere which generated $25 million in synergies; talent management process and organizational redesign to transition Matria from a maternity management business into a market leading disease management, medical informatics and health & wellness company; assessment and integration process that formed Matria which achieved in excess of $40 million in synergies; creation of Matria’s infrastructure enabling its growth from $120 million to nearly $500 million in annual revenues; assimilation of over 15 acquisitions; and realignment of the Company following 7 divestitures and spin-offs.
Prior to joining Healthdyne, he was associated with Glasrock Home Health Care, Inc. from January 1985 until August 1992, where he served as Vice President Human Resources and led the achievement of a 35-plus percent increase in company-wide labor productivity and the integration of over 20 acquisitions. Thornton earned a bachelor’s degree in management from the University of New Orleans in 1975.
